Environmental Estrogens and Other Hormones (EEOH), part of the Environmental Concepts Made Easy (ECME) web site, is an educational service and an interactive forum where those interested in environmental estrogens and other environmental hormones can find accurate, timely information and contribute to ongoing public debate.

To Add: To be added to the EEOH web site e-mail update list, send a note to the web site manager at ecme@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu and include a full name and e-mail address in the message.

The Center for Bioenvironmental Research at Tulane and Xavier Universities (CBR) maintains the ECME web site. CBR researchers collaborate across disciplines, departments, and universities to study and propose solutions to environmental problems. 8/2000:

A new study from Canada adds to the existing literature on testicular cancer and exposure to estrogens in the womb. Both positive and negative associations have been reported in the past. This study finds an association with exogenous estrogen (specifically two drugs, DES and premarin) and testicular cancer risk. It also finds an association with maternal estrogen exposure, specifically in that factors thought to decrease maternal estrogen (e.g., cigarette smoking) are negatively associated with risk.

Introduction: These pages provide an introduction to the effects of hormone disrupting chemicals on man and the environment. Other terms used to describe these chemicals include xenoestrogens, oestrogenic (estrogenic), hormone mimicking and endocrine disrupting chemicals. The chemicals involved include pesticides such as DDT, lindane and atrazine, the food packaging chemicals, phthalates and bisphenol A, alkylphenol ethoxylate detergents and the chemical industry by-products, dioxins.

These pages are aimed at anyone interested in the subject, and include references to other research and reviews for those interested in investigating the field further.

The pages focus particularly on those chemicals which are not organochlorines, but some information is also provided on organochlorines.
