A new report from the UK claims that environmental changes as exposure to toxics are responsible for

EMID - Environmentally-Mediated Intellectual Decline:

"There is growing concern that environmental factors, such as toxic waste, are responsible for increasing levels of human developmental disability, that is damage to intellectual development. Unfortunately, traditional methodologies have proved inadequate for establishing this link. The aim of this research was to establish the importance of protecting human intelligence from the threats posed by environmental change, to develop more effective interdisciplinary means to identify and argue intellectual decline as a consequence of environmental change, and to propose internationally acceptable approaches to ensure the security of the human intellect from environmental threats."
